Brief History of Wayside Baptist Church
Wayside Baptist Church is the Lord's church, He is the Head and we are His body. We are what we are by the grace of God. We thank God for each one who has served the Lord in this place over the years. The people of WBC are not perfect, but we serve a perfect God!
In the late 1950's Wayside Baptist Church started with a few large families who began to gather together to worship the Lord. In April of 1957 they were officially named the Leitersburg Gospel Church. During those early years a few different men came in to preach, one of those men was Bobby Dennis. The first man called to pastor the church was Charles Miles.
Then in 1959 the church voted to change the name to Wayside Baptist Church. At that time the church was meeting in the old brick building located just up the street from our current location.
In 1963 the church called Pastor Odell Stone. For next fourteen years the blessings of the Lord was evident upon the church. The Lord used the church to see many people saved, baptized, and discipled. The bus ministry was strong, missions was emphasized, the youth department was growing, and men were called into the ministry. In the mid 1960's the church bought property and begin to build a new auditorium building. That building held it's Dedication Day on February 26, 1968, which is the current building we meet in. In the earlier 1970's the church built an educational building on the property that holds a fellowship hall, offices, bookstore, classrooms, and a prophets chamber. Today that building is called the Odell Stone Center in honor of Pastor Odell Stone, who has gone home to be with the Lord.
From 1978-1990 the church had three Pastor's; Roland Romig, Leslie Rogers, and James Dittmar. In 1990 the church was at a crossroads either to bring in another Pastor or close the doors. They were without a Pastor, the property was ran down, and struggling financially. The Lord used Brother Paul Hammond to contact Pastor Odell Stone to pray about returning as Pastor. He said yes, and the church voted him back in. He would Pastor the church for another fourteen years until 2003. The Lord restored the work of the church under the leadership of Pastor Stone during those years.
In 2003 the church called Pastor Mark Pittman. In 2009 the church called Pastor Alan Waddell. In 2015 the church called Pastor Jeremy Kitchen who is currently our Pastor. The Lord has blessed the church over the years. However, the best days of WBC are yet to come! We press on toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
